The Hedgehog
Surreptitious on the doorstep
With an evening bowl of milk
And ear pricked for one more step
From the kitchen rustled silk;
With bristled acquiescence
The Tom Cat shared the plate
With a friend from out the wildwood
About to hibernate.
As he pattered through the hedgerows
And he rustled through the leaves
He finds the moonlit saucer
With the nourishment he thieves,
But there's a pointed message
For those who overload
As the Hedgehog faced the Roadhog
Both had one more for the road.
